quote: Brief: Gibson guitar rocks storage with flash, hard drive The 1959 Gibson Les Paul flash drive is the first edition to be offered
January 18, 2007 (MacCentral) -- While you would expect high-tech instruments from a company like Gibson Guitar Corp., the company is expanding its reach into the digital realm with several data storage products that include a collectible flash drive and an external hard disk drive.
The Memphis-based company today announced its Gibson External USB 2.0 500GB Hard Drive, as well as two DVD recorders and a CD-R recorder.
Gibson's 500GB drive is comes in a 3.5-inch form factor, runs at 7,200 RPM and comes with 8MB cache. The USB 2.0 connector transfers data at 480Mbit/sec., and it includes a universal power adapter. The drive is plug and play, and hot swappable. It also comes with a neon-glowing "Gibson" moniker on the side.
If you're a fan of the Gibson Les Paul guitars, this will probably be an item you will have to have on your desk. Gibson has released a 1GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive -- the first in a collector series of flash drives that are miniature replicas of iconic Gibson guitars. The 1959 Gibson Les Paul is the first edition to be offered. Each drive comes with a miniature case and USB cable for connecting the drive to a USB port. Pricing for the drive was not available.
Gibson's Pure DVD-R & DL Media player comes in a double layer, or DVD-RAM, format, that allows you to drag and drop files onto DVD-RAM over and over like a flash drive. It stores up to 8.3GB per disc and also comes in a USB 2.0 interface.
Gibson's also announced its Pure CD-R Media recorder and Gibson Pure Gold External USB 2.0 Triple Format DVD Recorder. For other details on each of the products, go to the Gibson Consumer Electronics Web site.
