T O P I C R E V I E W | AnonJr | Posted - 11 Mar 2008 : 20:59:57 It seems that there's been a bit more discussion going on regarding daylight savings this year. I spotted this rather interesting article by the Wall Street Journal - http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB120406767043794825.html
It seems that there's now more evidence to show that the cost savings - the primary reason given for DST these days (and the reason most cited for the recent changes here in the states) - may not actually exist. It seems that based on meter readings in Indiana we may actually be paying higher electric bills as a result of DST. The article rightfully concludes that there isn't enough evidence to make sweeping generalizations about the entire US as a result of one state's findings. I think there is enough to start conducting more studies.
All things being equal, I'd rather just let DST go away. Though, it seems some think the extra daylight at the end of the day makes people want to be out and about more (and consequently spending more money). I'm not sure I buy that... (sorry, couldn't help that one)
What have you heard? And what do you think about DST? |
